In this week's episode, officially the first of Aston Villa Review, Chris and Steve take stock with Paul Lambert and his players two-thirds of the way through their tour of the United States of America. With Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire beaten, and Portland Timbers still to play, we discuss the performances so far and ask whether Lambert might just have discovered his strongest midfield.
We also chew over comments made in the past week by Lambert's predecessor, Alex McLeish, who has robustly defended his spell at Villa Park on the grounds that he was charged with reducing the wage bill. That may well be the case, but the worst home record conceivable by man is surely an unmitigated failure no matter the criteria.
One housekeeping note: we continue to work on the sound quality. Thank you for bearing with us.
