Aston Villa and adidas have unveiled the club’s new away kit for the 2026/27 season.
Villa and their technical partner have embraced noir for their away shirt, which was launched ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opening fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Trimmed with claret, blue and primarily gold, this one is an absolute corker.
The presence of the Visit Rwanda sponsor logo – no surprise, of course, but still – is really the only negative. The colour scheme looks great and feels uniquely Villa even though it’s not, and the whole thing is coherent.
Hiding in the black body is a gas lamp motif that serves as a nod to Villa’s history, which is also reflected in the simplified lion that replaces the full club badge.

Just like one on the home shirt, I prefer the adapted version of the badge but accept that the full implementation of it should be the norm. I’ve no issue at all with modified badges popping up on different shirts along the way, though, and this one is a beaut.
The classic adidas Originals trefoil is on the other side of the chest, which inevitably means this will be a popular shirt along with the new full Originals range that has followed suit.
That’s a wrapover!
This is the sixth kit Villa have brought out since Aston Villa Review returned and I can guarantee that I’ve passed comment on the collar of every single one of them.
These shirts are always going to be the same shape. Colours will change, badges and sponsors will be different from one season to the next, but for me it’s the collar that ultimately makes or breaks them.
I don’t mind a bold collar but if it’s a shit one, the shirt is cooked. This one, I think, is both bold and not shit. The colours combine to stand out without clashing with one another, and the wrapover effect is rather sharp.
Why it wraps right over left instead of left over right in some of the images is anyone’s guess…
Photos? Photos.
Villa’s new away shirt will be available at Villa Park, at the Bullring store, and online, from Saturday 22nd August.
