Villa's winless run against Palace continued with a goalless draw at Selhurst Park
Oliver Glasner has a crazy record against Unai Emery. A very good coach he may be, but the Crystal Palace manager is unbeaten against one of the best. Madness.
Aston Villa generated a lot of early pressure in the first quarter of their latest Premier League fixture against the Eagles, complete with some excellent counterpressing work to keep the home team on their toes.
But Villa had no real response when Palace stepped it up. By the end of the game, they were largely hanging on for a point. They had some chances of their own but Palace were on top throughout the second half.
Emery and indeed Damian Vidagany have spoken out since the match about refereeing. I’m not sure this was the game to try to make a point about the officials.
Emery was clearly seething at full time and, yes, there should have been a proper VAR check for Brennan Johnson’s foul on Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers was robbed of a corner very late in the game, but I didn’t come away feeling a sense of injustice about the result.
