Scouting for Goalies: Who's next for Aston Villa when Emi Martínez leaves?
With Robin Olsen gone and Martínez possibly next out of the door, where should Villa turn for their next goalkeeper?
The summer transfer window is rattling along apace and some of the Premier League’s leading clubs have already made some big moves to strengthen ahead of the new season.
Aston Villa need a goalkeeper. If Emiliano Martínez leaves this summer, they’ll need two. Robin Olsen left at the end of his contract and Villa, whatever happens with their number one stopper, are now short between the posts.
This look at a handful of the options available – in the loosest sense of the word – to Unai Emery and Monchi considers a group of five goalkeepers including the current incumbent. If we can be sure of anything it’s that we won’t have two of these players at Villa Park at the end of August.
The group in question have been included on the basis that they either play for Villa or have been linked to them with varying degrees of believability in the past three months without having since been transferred somewhere else.
They are: Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa), Lucas Chevalier (Lille), Andriy Lunin (Real Madrid), Marcin Bułka (Nice) and Berke Özer (Eyüpspor).
