The Holy Trinity: Aston Villa conclusions from goalless draw v Everton
Modest positives mean nothing for a team performing woefully beneath themselves
Three useful signings on transfer deadline day followed by an international break felt like a much needed breather after a horrendous start to the Premier League season but nothing much has changed.
Aston Villa were miles off it again in their game against Everton on Saturday. Getting away from the Hill Dickinson relatively intact and with a point for their efforts was about the best Villa could have asked after another shocker of a performance.
Unai Emery isn’t under pressure, at least in terms of keeping his job, and nor should he be. But there is a need to adapt his thinking before Tuesday’s League Cup trip to Brentford and Villa’s next Premier League outing at Sunderland next weekend.
What’s been served up so far hasn’t been anything like good enough. More than that, if it continues Villa will be beaten twice more before they know it.
