Villa kept their winning run going but were far from emphatic against Wolves

It’s usually difficult to pick holes in a football team that’s been winning all of its matches and climbing up the table. Usually, but not always.

Aston Villa found a way to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday and moved up to fourth in the Premier League, a satisfying but unconvincing home win that had the feel both of a match they should have won more easily and a match they would have drawn last season.

This 1-0 win was always about the first goal. Wolves were beaten as soon as Villa scored and resorted to just kicking the opposition.
