Villa coasted but got the job done against Swiss Super League opposition
Young Boys fans disgraced themselves at Villa Park on Thursday, throwing things at opposing players and attacking police.
Aston Villa were good enough to get job done in their fifth league phase match in the Europa League, then not quite bad enough to throw the points away. It wasn’t a perfect performance but it did the trick.
Villa’s Swiss opposition couldn’t handle their passing high in the channels when the home team were at their best but the substitutions in the second half interrupted a positive display up to that point.
The league phase is about points and points alone, however, and a 2-1 win for the Villa will do very nicely. It temporarily moved them into the top two in UEFA’s mega monotable.
