Villa threw two points away and then snatched them back in a bizarre conclusion at Villa Park
The teams fighting for Champions League places from the inside just about held it together in the Premier League on Saturday and Sunday. Manchester United beat Chelsea and Liverpool won a dramatic Merseyside derby against Everton.
Aston Villa did their bit the hard way too. They were 3-1 up with just a few minutes left in their Premier League fixture at home against Sunderland on Sunday but a couple of ridiculous goals in a matter of seconds made it 3-3.
It could have been even worse. Instead, two substitutes made it all better. A cross from Lucas Digne found Tammy Abraham and the striker’s deft finish turned one point back into three.
The last ten minutes and stoppage time were an experience I could have done without. The same might not quite be true of Unai Emery and Villa.
