The teams promoted from the Championship last season are making a rather better fist of the Premier League than the three that went before them.

Aston Villa face their second away game against promoted opposition on Sunday, this time against a Leeds United outfit who are in the relegation zone at the start of play but have almost caught up with Southampton’s total points tally in 2024/25 and are halfway to matching that of Ipswich Town.

Leeds have lost only one of their five home fixtures this season, winning two and drawing two. They were beaten 2-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at the start of October before a home win against West Ham United.

Manager Daniel Farke won’t have been impressed by Leeds conceding six goals in their last two away games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest but both picked up results on Saturday that reinforced their credentials.
