To say I breathed a sigh of relief when John McGinn made it 3-1 on aggregate would be an understatement. I did not see an emphatic win coming but I’m proud as punch that it did.

Aston Villa beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate to win their Europa League semi-final and set up a final against Freiburg in Istanbul in a couple of weeks’ time. They were magnificent.

Villa played with such fire. It was wonderful to watch and gratifying to see them get the reward for their efforts. This was a historic night for the club, which now stands 90 minutes away from glory. If they play like that again, with that level of intent and desire, they’ll get what they deserve.

I’d hope Villa immediately turned their attentions to Sunday’s match at Burnley, for there is work still to be done in the Premier League, but I’m still basking in this one just as I wallowed miserably in the Spurs performance.
