Transfer update, friendly announced and players at the World Cup: Aston Villa news weekly digest
Villa have added another overseas friendly to the pre-season schedule
The World Cup is hogging all the attention, mine included, and we’re in the business end at last. Somewhat improbably, England are still going. Norway are waiting in the quarter-finals.
Aston Villa are ticking along quietly enough. When the World Cup finishes in ten days, one suspects things will start to move quickly whether we want them to or not.
Here’s are all the latest nuggets of news from Villa Park.
Villa players at the World Cup
The quarter-finals of the World Cup will be blessed with a pretty respectable six Villa players.
👉🏻 Ezri Konsa, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins will be part of the England squad that faces Norway on Saturday. Konsa is ever-present for the Three Lions, while Rogers has been used minimally across four of the five games played. Watkins has played just a few minutes.
👉🏻 Lucas Digne (France), Emiliano Martínez (Argentina) and Youri Tielemans (Belgium) are all still involved and two matches away from the final in New Jersey in ten days’ time.
👉🏻 The World Cup came to a premature end for Amadou Onana, who ruptured his ACL in the first half of Belgium’s win against the United States and will be out for several months.
