The Holy Trinity: Aston Villa conclusions from first Premier League win v Fulham
Villa won 3-1 at home to bank their first league maximum of the 2025/26 season
I reckon all football supporters think their teams play better in the sunshine. I know I do. It just feels different, like everything’s aligned and hope is the natural order.
Aston Villa quickly made life hard for themselves on this sunny Sunday afternoon, not helped by referee Andy Madley applying the rules or not depending on how he felt in any given moment.
In the end, though, Ollie Watkins lobbed in his first goal of the season and the refereeing chips fell mostly in Villa’s favour as they blitzed Fulham in the early part of the second half to win 3-1, their first Premier League victory of the season just a few days after beating Bologna in the Europa League.
It was a vastly improved performance from Unai Emery’s men and while it wasn’t perfect, it should be noted that Fulham aren’t and weren’t slouches.
The biggest and best conclusion of all is that Villa look competitive in matches again. It’s been a vital week in that regard and the mood seems to be easing up accordingly.
Here’s another Holy Trinity of conclusions from Villa’s first league win of 2025/26.
