Even in pre-season friendlies, it’s great to see a football team clicking in all the right ways.
Aston Villa battered Roma at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Wednesday, running out 4-0 winners after taking a three-goal lead into the break after a very encouraging first-half performance.
Ollie Watkins scored another header. Donyell Malen grabbed another goal. The plus points were many, diluted only by an injury to Morgan Rogers that thankfully doesn’t sound serious.
Pre-season being pre-season, the second half wasn’t quite the spectacle of the first but it was great to see Villa dominating competent opposition for a solid 45 minutes.
Here’s your Holy Trinity of match conclusions.
